Resources
for children and their families are a priority
at all KPL locations. The Children's Services
Department at the Main
Library offers the most extensive range of
materials for young readers and provides support
for the development of services for youth throughout
the KPL system.
Staff at the Children's Services Desk look forward
to helping you choose materials for all reading
levels and interests. Along with an incredible
selection of books and a
range of popular magazines,
you will find multimedia
collections that include sound recordings,
book-tape kits, videos &
DVDs, CD-ROMS and toys
all available to take home.
Children
will enjoy KidTech, Internet
access stations, and the Main Library's Homework
Centre . Parents will appreciate the
Family Resource Centre where they will find
books, videos and other information related to
child-rearing and issues of special interest to
families dealing with emotional or physical challenges.
Library Programs for all ages are scheduled
throughout the year, with enhanced programming
for school-aged children presented during major
school breaks.

has books for fun AND facts - covering every reading
level and interest. A significant French language
collection has been developed, along with representative
collections in international languages. In addition
to books for children, the Professional Collection
and Parenting Shelf collections are designed for
adults interested in reading about children's
literature, parenting issues and other related

with a terrific collection of French music and
language enhance the print collection.

huge collection of videos and a growing collection
of DVDs include full-length feature films and
award-winning titles on topics covering baby's
first alphabet to science experiments and more.
Major holidays and seasonal events are also reflected
in this collection of materials, many of which
have Public Performance Rights.

KidTech
Kids
are invited to explore the world of CD-ROM technology
with our KIDTECH Centres. Exciting interactive
CD-ROM stories and learning games for preschoolers
and up are available to use in the Children's
areas at all KPL locations.
Kidtech
is available during the Library's regular open
hours and 1/2 time slots may be reserved 24 hours
in advance (or less, subject to availability).
Bookings are made on the half hour in person or
by calling the KPL
location nearest you!

Toys
Enjoy
a collection of recreational and educational toys
suitable for babies through to preschoolers! Available
for a 1 week loan, KPL's TOYS TO GO includes adaptive
toys for children with special needs, puzzles
and a wonderful collection of novelty pop-up books,
plus a range of popular toys recommended by the
Canadian
Toy Testing Council.
Toys
to Go is available at the Main
Library, in the Children's Department's Family
Resource Centre as well as at
Pioneer Park Community Library, There is a
borrowing limit of 3 toys.
Our
toy library is a browsing collection and is maintained
by KPL's volunteer staff. The volunteers provide
support for this service at the Main Library as
well as at Pioneer Park Community Library. If
you are interested in contributing a few hours
of your time, visit our Volunteer

how you can help the parents and children of our

Family
Resource Centre
The
Family Resource Centre at the Main Library has
been established as a source of topical and timely
information for parents and caregivers. Social,
health and special issues are covered in a range
of print and video materials selected for children
and adults. The Main Library's toy lending collection
is also located in the Family Resource Centre.
