New Program!!
Don’t judge a book by its cover!

Become part of the Human Library…
Do you have a unique life story to tell? Here at KPL, we are offering a new program. It’s a Human Library, where people volunteer as living books. Readers sign out time with a Human Library “book”, to hear that person’s story and to ask questions.
Book volunteers come from all walks of life. One of the goals of the Human Library program is to increase people’s understanding of uncommon lifestyle choices or difficult situations. The Human Library tries to peel away the labels or stereotypes we may have, and shine a light on those who may feel invisible.
Here are some Human Library “book” titles that other libraries have offered:
Refugee Visually Impaired Living with Mental Illness Canadian Soldier
Muslim Woman Recovering Anorexic Life After Prison . Gay Parent
Cancer Patient Social Activist .Sex Trade Worker ..Paraplegic
KPL’s Human Library “books” will be developed from the stories of people in our community.
We are looking for volunteers who can participate on Sunday, September 26 from 12 – 4 pm. As a Human Library book, you would meet with readers for a 30 minute conversation. All readings would be organized by library staff. The event would be held in the KPL tent at The Word on the Street festival in Victoria Park.
“I still get goosebumps thinking about that day, the people I met and the impact that our stories had on each other.” ~~ Human Library volunteer, Calgary Public Library
“I wish there were more opportunities to talk to people about this.”
~~ Human Library reader, University of Guelph
