Request From Another Library
Books and microfilm not owned by Kitchener Public Library may be requested from other libraries, through a process called Interlibrary Loan. You may request up to four Interlibrary Loans at one time.
There are several ways to request an Interlibrary Loan:
- In person at any Kitchener Public Library location
- By calling InfoLink at 519.743.7502
- Submit a request online
Before requesting any items, check the library catalogue. Requests for items owned by Kitchener Public Library will not be processed. Items listed as missing or billed for over three months are eligible, as long as there are no other copies in the system.
Interlibrary Loans will take anywhere from 1 – 6 weeks to arrive. We will contact you when your items have arrived, or if the request cannot be filled. Loans must be picked up within 5 days of arrival.
The following items are not eligible for Interlibrary Loan requests:
- Any item appearing in the library catalogue, unless the item has been marked “Missing” or “Billed” for over three months
- Any book published in the last 12 months
- DVDs, CDs, videos, cassettes, talking books
- Entire issues of periodicals
Lending Fees & Renewals
Public libraries do not usually charge a lending fee. Most Canadian university libraries have a minimum $10.00 lending fee. We will notify you before requesting from any location that charges a fee.
Requests for renewals must be made at least 5 days before the due date and must be approved by the lending library.
Requests must be for a specific title. For books written in languages other than English, please provide the original title or author name.
To check for archival microfilm from the Archives of Ontario, visit the Microfilm Interloan Service section of their website. We require the microfilm reference code (GS1, GS2, MS, B) along with the reel number and a brief description of the item. Newspaper microfilm requests should specify the newspaper name and date (year and month).
There is a limit of three microfilm requests per person.
We require the title, date, issue, and page number(s) in order to provide photocopies of magazine or journal articles. Charges for photocopies are set by the lending library.
