Grow a Reader: 1001 Books Challenge

It's never too early to plant the seeds of literacy with your little one. Our 1001 Books Challenge will help you and your child make reading part of your routine. We know 1001 is a big number, but we know you've got this! 

Reading and early literacy are proven to promote lifelong wellbeing and learning. It's never too early or too late to start, whether your child is a newborn or four years old - this challenge is for you! This challenge can be completed online and paper-free! Just drop by the library to find new great reads and to pick up the prizes you earn along the way.

Early Learning & Literacy Alliance (ella)

Kitchener Public Library is one of over 20 member agencies working together to ignite a passion for learning and to fuel an early literacy movement in order to help our community and its children grow strong and successful. 

EarlyON Waterloo Region

EarlyON Child and Family Centres offer free, high-quality programs for families and children from birth to 6 years old. You can learn and play together with your child, meet other families and receive support and resources from early childhood professionals.

Early Learning and Child Care Navigators - EarlyON Child and Family Centre

The YMCA of Three Rivers has a team of Early Learning and Child Care Navigators (ELCC Navigators) ready to help young families access early learning and child care services. As one of the first points of contact for families with young children, ELCC Navigators:

  • Share information about licensed child care in Waterloo Region
  • Help families apply for child care on the centralized registry (OneList Waterloo Region)
  • Help families access and apply for child care subsidies
  • Provide information and support access to other services and resources such as special needs resourcing, EarlyON Child and Family Centres, and Public Health.
